Key Biscayne Gymnastics Coach’s Trial Hearing Delayed to September

by Krystal

Oscar Nicholas Olea, the former gymnastics coach from Key Biscayne facing six felony charges related to engaging a child for sex while in his custody, had his trial hearing postponed in a Miami courtroom. Judge Alberto Milian granted a continuance, rescheduling the hearing to September 9 at 9:30 a.m.

Olea, 38, who has pleaded not guilty, remains in custody without bond. His attorney, Matthew Ladd, was present in court alongside co-counsel Charlton Stoner at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building on Monday.

The allegations date back to 2011, involving incidents when the victims were 17 and 14 years old (with claims starting at age 12), according to a Miami Herald report. The State has gathered sufficient evidence to proceed with formal charges against Olea.

Originally set for May 2, the trial hearing was moved to Monday following several granted continuances by Judge Milian. A trial hearing (“T” hearing) is critical, often determining the case’s final outcome, where arguments are presented, evidence is reviewed, and witnesses testify.

Olea was arrested on February 28 in connection with the case.
